man it had honestly been a while since i’ve had that experience where a fic seems promising and starts out well, but then just snowballs into something that’s fucking excruciating to continue reading.
yet at the same time you just know it can’t get worse..believe that it has to get better from here.
denial is a powerful and spiteful bitch ladies and gents. that is all.

[…] I’ve never written anything without hope that someone would read and fall in love with my ideas just as I had. I’ve wanted people to read and be moved, to read and to love. How pleasant would it be for someone to sit with me and discuss my character as though the latter was a mutual friend? That’s what a character is- a friend. They’re there for us when we’re happy, sad and even angry. In return, we’re there every step of the way and we root for them. There’s an unpleasant feeling of dread when we reach the end of a book. We’re caught between wanting to know how the story ends and never wanting it to stop. I think when we ask someone to stop caring and just be happy with what they have, it’s like asking them to stop loving someone all together.
For example, let’s say someone walks into your life unexpectedly. They are with you every moment of the day whether it’s in thought or presence, and with them you learn and you grow. This person makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you happy. But the happiness is short lived because on a bright sunny morning, this person that you have come to love tells you they are leaving. There’s a brief goodbye, nothing very satisfying, and they’re off. Wouldn’t you try to make the person who has changed your life stay? Wouldn’t you try anything at all to make them reconsider? That’s what fan fiction is. It’s the begging, the pleading, the tears and the frustration of someone watching the person they love leave. It’s the daydreaming about what could have been and what could be. It’s the imagination and the curiosity of the human mind written in form of a story. If you tell someone to stop daydreaming, you may as well tell them you never intended for them to love your characters. It doesn’t work like that. Every story must grow old, but not every story has to die.
my essay on fanfiction (via sirenscomecalling)
if only i had some fics to read…
every fandom has their gut wrenching kill-me-now-I-can’t-live-in-this-world-anymore-from-all-of-the-sad Fanfiction
for Teen Wolf it’s Slipping Away
for Merlin it’s looking at you looking at me
for Sherlock it’s Alone On the Water
but then you have Supernatural and it’s Supernatural.
“but then you have Supernatural and it’s Supernatural.”
so maybe this is just me but i have SO many fics saved to read right now that i’m honestly avoiding starting any because i just have no idea where to begin?
plus i know once i read one i’m gonna wanna shotgun them all…
I was browsing some fic here on tumblr, looking through everyone’s layouts, and thinking to myself, “I don’t know how anyone reads fic without Readability.” It occurred to me then that possibly many of you are reading without it because you don’t know it exists.
Here’s an example of what it does. Say this is what the fic looks like before:
I click on my Readability bookmark right there and it converts the page to become:
And say you’re not a fan of white on black and zoomed for a blind person, which are just my personal settings, all the options are in a column on the left for you to experiment with:
Be sure to give Readability a look and maybe you can save yourself some eyestrain and finally be able to read from sites you thought were lost to you.
don’t you wish such place existed
They would be divided according to fandom. Crossover fics would appear in all the fandoms they reference. The smut section would have red lighting (for red light districts, duh) and the fluff section would have bean bags and stuffed animals. The angst section would be between fluff and smut so you can cope as you choose. There would be divisions according to pairings. Fan art would decorate the walls. There would be special nights for readings. The computers could be used to write fic and reference the original canon. Each fandom section would be decorated according to the corresponding fandom. The staff would wear cosplays from various fandoms.
*sobs quietly because this doesn’t exist*
